Progressive Auto Insurance
We could buy online, click to call (where a Progressive agent calls you) or call Progressive over the Internet ( you need a microphone, speakers, and high speed connection).
As an internet pioneer, I expected their site to offer online chatting, but presently do not offer this. Their quote engine was nicely done from a graphics standpoint, they had tabs illustrating five levels of coverage: Basic, economy, recommended, plus, and custom. Under economy and recommended coverages, Progressive defaults to a $500 deductible.
The quote was fast but rates surprisingly high. The premium was 200% more than we are paying now. Even higher than some larger national carriers. They were also going to charge us an anti-fraud fee of $1.80, proof fraud really does cost all of us, even before it happens according to Progressive! When we choose The recommended tab, the price dropped $100 every 6 months, because they dropped the car Rental coverage, in case you have to rent a car.

They also offer comparison "estimates" which are what our state insurance regulators expect each company to charge. In other words, the price is not unique to you, even though they get into greater detail about your driving record, anti theft options on your car, etc.
We were told they would gave us a State Farm and Allstate estimate, but on all attempts, we were given only State Farms estimate. State Farm is by no means the cheapest carrier our there! The State Farm estimate was only of several hundred more than Progressive on the higher limit coverage (100/300) and only several dollars more than Progressive's price for state minimum coverage.
Final thoughts: Progressive pays Actual Cash Value (true market value) if your car is totaled whihch is standard. They have a slick interface, and great comparison of their own levels of coverage and the varying prices. The premiums appear to be near more traditional brick and mortar insurers.
